Julius Caesar, 49-44 BC. Denarius (Silver, 18 mm, 3.65 g, 8 h), M. Mettius, moneyer, Rome, January-February 44. CAESAR•IMP Laureate head of Julius Caesar to right; behind, lituus and simpulum. Rev. M•ME[TTIVS] Venus Victrix standing front, head to left, holding Victory in her right hand and scepter in her left, and resting her left elbow on shield set on globe to right; in field to left, I. Babelon (Julia) 34. Crawford 480/3. CRI 100. RBW 1678. Sydenham 1056. Some bankers' marks on the obverse and the reverse struck somewhat off center and with a graffito, otherwise, fine.
